Smart Agripreneurs Academy is committed to educating young people and smallholder farmers to create profitable and sustainable agribusiness ventures Transforming Agriculture in The Gambia: Empowering Youth through Agribusiness Education. Mission Statement We are dedicated to revolutionizing agriculture in The Gambia by equipping young people with the essential agribusiness skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience needed to thrive in the sector. Our mission is to bridge the gap between theoretical education and real-world agricultural practices, fostering a new generation of agripreneurs who will drive innovation, enhance food security, and contribute to sustainable economic growth. Founder’s Vision Founded by Mustapha Kanagie, a passionate social agripreneur and educator with over five years of experience, the Academy is committed to inspiring youth to embrace agriculture as a viable and rewarding career path. Through innovative teaching methods, mentorship, and practical exposure, we aim to transform the perception of agriculture and empower young people to become leaders in the sector. Key Objectives 1. Skill Development: Equip young people with practical agribusiness skills, including crop production, farm management, and entrepreneurship. 2. Climate-Smart Agriculture: Educate students on climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies to promote sustainable food production. 3. Economic Empowerment: Create opportunities for youth to generate income through agribusiness, reducing unemployment and poverty. 4. Environmental Sustainability: Promote practices that reduce reliance on fossil fuels and lower the carbon footprint of agricultural activities. Other impact to Date - Vegetable Production: Successfully transplanted over 2 million vegetable seedlings and produced 10,000 kg of vegetables, contributing to local food security. - Youth Engagement: Educated over 2,000 students on sustainable agricultural practices and climate change strategies. - Community Outreach: Provided mentorship, career guidance, and field exposure to inspire youth to pursue careers in agriculture. Approach 1. Project-Based Learning: Students engage in hands-on projects that simulate real-world agricultural challenges, fostering problem-solving and critical thinking skills. 2. Mentorship and Career Guidance: Experienced agripreneurs and educators provide one-on-one mentorship to guide students in their career paths. 3. Field Exposure: Regular visits to farms and agribusinesses offer students practical insights into the agricultural value chain. 4. Climate-Smart Training: Workshops and training sessions focus on sustainable practices, such as water conservation, renewable energy use, and organic farming. Future Goals - Expand the program to reach 5,000 students annually by 2027. - Establish a network of youth-led agribusinesses across The Gambia. - Partner with local and international organizations to scale up climate-smart agricultural practices. - Develop a digital platform to provide online resources and training for aspiring agripreneurs.
